What
does the tuition for the program include?
The
course fee is $850 including free accommodation during the
course in Thailand. Deposit payment is $500 which is
non-refundable.
How do
I need to pay for the course?
It is simple. You just need to make your payment by using your
credit card through paypal, which is the safest mode of online
payment. In case you don’t have a credit card, just write back
to us, we will send you the wire transfer details or Western
Union Money transfer details.
What is an average
program day like?
Our Special TESOL Project in Thailand is an extensive 3 weeks course. Classes
begin sharp at 9:00 in the morning and extend till 4:45 pm, with mid morning,
lunch and afternoon breaks. The program is normally conducted Monday to Friday,
but additional classes may be organized on 1 or 2 Saturdays also.
Do I have a choice
of city and school?
ATI tries its best to
make both the counters happy. But, it is usually difficult to perfectly match
the school and the teacher, satisfying the needs and conditions of both sides.
Schools often set criterions related to age, sex, experience, behavior, looks of
the teachers and the parameters vary from school to school. Moreover, higher
qualification fetches finer options. Therefore, teachers are recommended to be
flexible while stating their preferences and supporting reasons. The sooner that
you can commit, the better your chances will be of acquiring a position that you
desire.
Can I bring my
laptop with me? Will I get internet facilities in the accommodation provided
during the TESOL course in Thailand?
Yes surely you can bring your laptop with you. You may not get internet
connection at your accommodation. But Cyber Cafes are strewed all over the major
Thai cities helping you to stay conveniently connected.

in Class TESOL program. Only the time schedule varies a bit. Moreover, the

How does the
accommodation like in Thailand during the course?
American TESOL Institute provides well-equipped accommodation for teacher
trainees during the training, free of cost. (Single Occupancy). The private
rooms are air-conditioned with attached bathroom. Each room has Television with
International channels, hot and cold water, Refrigerator. Bed sheet and towels
will be changed every 7 days.
Will you pick me up
from the airport? Is pick up and drop facility is available from the
accommodation to the training school?
Yes we will pick you up from Airport to the TESOL training site at free of cost.
You just need to email us beforehand the landing time.
We do have regular pick up and drop facility.
Food is also
provided during the course?
No. You have to arrange for your own food. Food is really cheap in Thailand and
you will get plenty of eateries scattered across the town serving sumptuous food
at cheap rates. So, getting food will not be a problem in Thailand.
Questions about
living in China
Will I be able to
save money while working in China?
There are thousands of job opportunities in China for the various ESL jobs. The
salary is usually five times the average local wage and you can expect to get a
generous compensation package. Unless you party hard or a compulsive shopper,
you can should be able to save money while in China.
What’s the climate
like? What kind of clothing will I need to bring?
China has a great diversity in climates. The north-east experiences hot and dry
summers and bitterly cold winters. The north and central region has continual
rainfall, hot summers and cold winters. The south-east region has average
rainfall with semi-tropical summers and cold winters.
North China – heavy clothing with boots for harsh winter. Light clothing
for summers.
South China – medium clothing for winter and light clothing for summer.
What if I get sick
in China?
If you get sick in China then be prepared for a surprise. Most facilities
provide a blend of western methods and traditional Chinese medicines. Most of
the hospitals are not spotless, do not have adequate lighting and does not
maintain a standard of sterility.
What is the public
transportation system like?
Buses and subways are comfortable because they are cheap, efficient and fast.
Most of the urban bus fleets gets rapidly updated. Majority of the buses are
air-conditioned in winter and heated in summer. Many buses have soft cushioned
seats although the majority still uses the plastic torture seats. Outside the
large cities the buses may be old but the fares are cheaper and journeys
shorter.
What kind of food
is available?
Chinese cuisine is famous, memorably diverse and generally not for the
squeamish. The Cantonese have a saying ’ Anything that walks, swims, crawls or
flies with its back to heaven is edible’. Cantonese Chinese is hugely popular
with the Westerners.
Is it safe
traveling around in China?
The single most reassuring fact about china is that it has a remarkably low
crime rate. Cities like Beijing and Shanghai are known for their public order
and safe city streets where one can walk at any time of the day. But there are
increased instances of drug trafficking by the rising foreign population.
What about the
nightlife in China?
Nightlife in china is all of Chinese opera, Chinese State circus, ballet and
theater. Local Chinese people tend to drink socially with a formal beer, so all
the nightclubs are in major towns only.
Karaoke is a popular form of evening entertainment. Traditional local dance and
music are found among ethnic groups specially in the province of Yunnan.
Using credit cards
in China?
Yes, you can use credit cards in China especially in hotels and restaurants. The
establishments do charge an overseas transaction fee but that is very modest.
But outside major hotel chains using credit cards is a complicated affair. The
stores are always suspicious of the signatures. There are lots of ATMs’ around.
So withdrawing RMB for cash transactions is not difficult.
Net connectivity in
China?
Internet is available in many areas of China; there are internet cafes in
Beijing and in major towns. However postings by bloggers are routinely curbed.
Telephone
connection in China?
Public telephones are available in post offices, hotels, shops and
roadside kiosks. Domestic calls are cheaper after 2100 hrs. It is easier to make
international calls from China. There is a 3 min minimum charge for
international calls.
Roaming agreements exist between major international telecom companies. Coverage
is good in towns and cities throughout the country. Almost 1/3rd of the country
has coverage.
About the teaching job in China
When the teaching
placement is going to start in China? When should I land there?
For teachers whose teaching placement is going to start 1st March onwards in
Chinese schools, or before or after that , all the necessary information will be
emailed to the teachers in due time.
What about the
airfare? When will it be reimbursed?
Usually in China the actual purchasing price (up to $ 730) of the airfare for
flight to China or the return flight fare shall be reimbursed by Employer at the
end of your 6 months contract.
What is the

Do schools provide
Visa and work permit?
Yes. The school will provide you with the work Visa. It will solely be the
schools ‘responsibility. Teachers landing with tourist Visa, have to bear the
cost on their own. We will assist you in every possible way to get your Tourist
Visa / L visa.
What are those
documents that I need to send to the Chinese schools?
Teachers must ensure that all the following essential documents are in place
even before procuring a job offer.
• A photocopy of Passport (Photo Page only)
• Authenticated Criminal Record Check (with vulnerable sector search)
• Self Medical Check form
• Two passport size photo,
• Certificate of Employment (Employment Proof)
• Certificate of High school or BA or MA Original Degree or Notarized Copy of
Diploma/Degree
• Full Size Picture
Where I can do the
medical check up in China?
There are a good number of Medical centers and Hospitals available in China
where you can do your medical test. We have a long list. And we will email you
the list with details when you will arrive in China or your school will assist
you regarding this.
When do I get my
first salary?
Teachers in China usually get their first salary after the completion of the one
month of the contract. Usually the salary is given at the end of the month. That
depends on that particular school.
Can I renew my
contract with the school? What is the extra benefit of renewing a contract?
Yes sure, you can renew the contract with the school and go for a longer
contract like one year or more than that.
If you renew the contract with the school, you will be entitled to get the
following extra benefits apart from what you get in a 6 months contract:
1. Round trip airfare.
2. Benefit to travel inside China at free of cost.
3. Free medical benefit.
What happens if I
get sick?
There are hospitals in almost every city where patients can get treatment
without having to travel too far. Basic health care is provided by the clinic or
hospital nominated by the school and they will usually ensure you are covered
for the costs of unexpected medical expenses should you suddenly take ill or
have an accident. If you require comprehensive insurance, it would be best
suggested to take out private cover before leaving home -EMERGENCY EVACUATION
INSURANCE
Is there any
possible source of additional income in China?
In China apart from teaching at your own school/university, you can easily
afford to earn some extra money by doing private tuition at your spare time,
teaching work at other nearby universities/schools/night schools or local
companies and we can help you regarding this. But make sure you do this with due
permission from your existing school or company.
What documents
should I present to the Chinese Embassy or Consulate for processing my Visa
Application?
You should submit the following list of documents to your country's Chinese
Embassy or Consulate:
To apply for and obtain your Z-Visa (Expert Work Visa) you will need to submit
the following:
- A completed Visa Application Form (you can obtain this Form from the
Chinese Embassy or download it from the Internet.
- Your valid Passport (the validity of your passport should be longer than
your desired period of commitment in China by at least six months)
- Invitation and Work Permit that you receive from TEACH ESL IN CHINA by
facsimile.
- 1 Passport Size Photo ((color), two if your a citizen of the United
States.
- Applicable Visa Application Fee - obtainable from Embassy or Consulate or
Internet.
Can I also bring my
spouse (Partner) and child with me to China?
Certainly, some Chinese universities, colleges and High Schools welcome spouses
and families to China. Chinese schools will not be responsible for your spouse's
expenses (air ticket, health insurance, holiday’s expenses, etc.)
Foreign experts working in China have many choices to give their children a good
education. They can individually send their young generation to some
international schools and all sorts of other ones that have the qualifications
to admit the foreign students.
What will be
the teaching like in China?
Generally speaking, you are required to teach listening and
oral/spoken/conversational English by correcting the enunciation and diction,
adjusting inflections and explaining the idiomatic and nuances of the English
language to those Chinese students in your classes, many of whom will be
preparing to go either abroad for study or to a university. If you are capable
of teaching English Literature, Business English, Business Administration,
Accounting, Math and Computer Science, etc., you will be the most welcomed and
may be offered a higher salary. Generally you shall be required to teach 3
hours/day (usually in the morning, but sometimes split) and classes often begin
at 8 am. Class size in Chinese schools is normally between 30 and 35 students.
